Additive Manufacturing Research Assistant Internship

At Orion AM we focus on scientific research and the development of Additive Manufacturing technologies. Our AM systems allow aerospace companies, hospitals, research institutes, and service bureaus to print medical- and aerospace-grade polymers with the strength and density of injection-moulded parts.

The Role 

We are seeking an Additive Manufacturing Research Assistant to support our projects for a minimum of 6 months. This role begins as a mandatory Internship (Pflichtpraktikum) position for the first 3 months (paid with stipend), with the prospect of transitioning into a paid Internship (Freiwilliges Praktikum) from month 4. This position gives you the opportunity to deepen your AM knowledge by working with us on actual customer projects, perfecting printing results, and  actively improving to our processes and machines.


Responsibilities:

  • Support CAD design, modeling and simulation
  • Operate and conduct daily monitoring of Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) machinery
  • Gather data on 3D printing processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct routine quality checks.
  • Ensure prompt, detailed communication regarding any machine issues.
  • Identify and propose best practices for the lab.
  • Ensure all machines are maintained in excellent working condition.
  • Assist in electronic and mechanical fabrication.

You Are:

  • Currently enrolled and working towards a B.Sc. or technical degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar field.
  • Already officially registered (Angemeldet) in Berlin. This is a strict requirement.
  • Inquisitive, curious, and highly autonomous
  • Proficient in SolidWorks.
  • Experienced in using FFF machines, with a strong foundational understanding of AM.
  • A creative problem solver who is excited to suggest design improvements
  • Skilled at multitasking, prioritizing, and communicating.
  • Able to handle confidential protocols professionally.
  • Fluent in English (our primary office language). German language skills are a plus.

Job type: Paid Mandatory Internship (Months 1–3) with a path to transition to Paid Voluntary Internship (Months 4–6)
Primary Location: Berlin Moabit (100% on-site)
Start date: Immediately
Duration: at least 6 months
Time commitment: 40 hrs/week
Salary: Stipend during Mandatory Internship, minimum wage for Voluntary Internship.
